Hey all, it’s been a week since my last blog due to me being busy in RL and having difficulties with my blog, pictures were suddenly disappearing and then being replaced by others, it was like the gremlins had invaded lol.
Anyway, I felt compelled to write when my friend Taille gave me the heads-up on Ivy’s recent post over at Snatch. Oh my, it touched a nerve I can tell you. Ivy often places freebies in her store, not just for members of her group but for the whole of the SL community. I remember when I started this account with Saiko, I had originally intended to keep it free as there are so many generous freebies available. One of the first items I got free was this Film Noir dress made by Ivy, I remember feeling so lucky that something so beautiful was available as a freebie (granted, it was for a limited time only).
Now freebies are truly a great thing and when you start out, items like this dress are a treasure. But it seems people are taking freebies for granted, not just at Ivy’s store but all over the grid. That is fine if you really have no money, but for those of us who do have money it is a crying shame just to take and not purchase anything else from that designer.
I remember on Fashcon Rezday, all the wonderful gifts on the grid, it was truly a great day, but I couldn’t help at times feeling like a vulture swooping in for the next tit-bit. Was I alone in feeling this way? We all want something for free, it seems to be part of our culture these days, but when designer’s hard work and generosity goes unrewarded it is a little cringe-worthy.
I have had lots of freebies and I love them, and I too am guilty of not always purchasing something from the store, but I am working on it – I’ve said it before in another post of mine, it’s my karma lol. I have yet to buy something at Ivy’s only as I think with this dress I got my fave item in her store but I follow her work religiously and am waiting for that special something to say “you want me – you know you want me”! It’s only a matter of time.
Please take a look at Ivy’s blog, read what she has to say and for those people who are acting like asshats, you need to get a grip, designer’s choose to give items away for free at their own discretion, they can also choose to withdraw those items at any time and should be able to do so without people having timmy tantrums in public and screaming that they have been ripped off. Shame on you.
Thanks to Ivy and all the designers out there who offer freebies, it is appreciated by most of us, rest assured.
Gah, sorry to get on my soapbox – have a great weekend all!
